8020 Lab

§LegalDraft

Terms

Effective {{LAUNCH_DATE}}. A draft adapted from the products' terms of sale. It is not legal advice, and a lawyer reads it before the first sale. These terms are offered by Brass Tacks, Inc., doing business as 8020 Lab, {{ADDRESS}}, support@8020lab.com ("the Seller").

1. This website

  • The pages, guides and checklists here are free to read and share. They are information, not professional advice.
  • The AI Security Tracker summarises public sources. Each entry links its primary source; check it before you act on an entry.
  • The free templates carry their own licence, stated on their page.
  • Names of other companies and products are used only to describe them; no affiliation is implied.

2. Products not yet on sale

Every product on this site is marked "Coming soon". Nothing is sold here yet. The terms of sale below apply from the day a product goes on sale.

3. Who sells to you

Software purchases are processed by Polar Software, Inc. ("Polar"), which acts as the merchant of record and reseller: it takes payment, charges and remits sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt. Its buyer terms apply to the payment (polar.sh/legal/checkout-buyer-terms). The Seller grants the licence below and supports the product.

4. What you buy

productwhat you getprice and term
Demo Shield ProPro features on the browsers where you sign in with your purchase emailonce, at the price on its page when it goes on sale
StepSpec ProPro features, same termsonce, at the price on its page when it goes on sale
{{SHIPIT}} ProPro features, same termsonce, at the price on its page when it goes on sale
Twice ProPro features of Twice on up to 5 computers per key, Windows and Mac in any mix; deactivate one in the app or the Polar customer portal to move the key$9 once; the first 10 buyers pay $1 and the next 100 pay $3, while places last
{{LANTERN}}a perpetual licence for one person on up to {{SEATS}} computers, with updates released until the date on your licence file$79 once, with 12 months of updates

Lifetime licences. Where a product page shows early places, the first 5 buyers pay $1 once and the next 10 pay the early price on that page once ($39 for {{LANTERN}}), while places last. A lifetime licence covers every future update of that product, with no expiry and no renewal. The places are counted by hand on each product page.

Feedback. Early users are invited, never required, to share feedback. No price depends on it, and no store review is ever requested or required in exchange for a price or a licence. With the author's permission, feedback is published, favourable or not, on Early adopter notes.

Free versions and trials are offered as described on each product page. When a trial ends, Pro features stop unless you buy; nothing is charged automatically.

5. Paid once

Every product is paid once. Nothing renews and nothing is charged again. Receipts, licence keys and refunds are in the Polar customer portal at polar.sh/8020-lab/portal.

6. Refunds and your right of withdrawal

  • Any purchase, 14 days, no questions. Write to support@8020lab.com within 14 days of the payment, and it is refunded in full by Polar to the original payment method.
  • EU and UK consumers may withdraw within 14 days without giving a reason. If you ask for immediate access to the digital content and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once access begins, the right ends when access begins; that consent is shown at checkout and confirmed in your receipt. Use the withdrawal function in the Polar customer portal at polar.sh/8020-lab/portal or write to support@8020lab.com.

7. Services

The release-docs pilot is a service sold directly by the Seller, not through Polar. It is invoiced by the Seller through Stripe, paid by ACH bank transfer or wire (card on request). The written offer or order sets its scope, price, guarantee and refund terms; these terms apply where it is silent.

8. Licence

The Seller grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the product for your own or your organisation's purposes. You may not resell, sublicense, or remove licence checks, or reverse engineer the product except where the law allows it. Open-source components keep their own licences, listed in each product's third-party notices.

9. Your responsibilities

  • Recording others. StepSpec and {{LANTERN}} record what is on your screen and, if you turn it on, your microphone. Get consent where the law requires it and follow your employer's policies.
  • Third-party services. {{SHIPIT}} works with posts on x.com and with Claude. You follow X's terms, and Anthropic's terms for your own account or API key.
  • AI output. Drafts and plans made with AI can be wrong. Check them before relying on them.

10. Warranty and liability

The products and this website are provided as is, with no warranty that they are error-free or fit for a particular purpose, to the extent the law allows. The Seller's total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer where you live.

11. Support, security and law

Support is by email at support@8020lab.com. Security reports go to security@8020lab.com; see the Security page. These terms are governed by the law of {{GOVERNING_LAW}}, without depriving consumers of the protection of the law of their country of residence. The Seller may update these terms for future purchases and renewals with notice.
